A Guide to Crafting Your Foundation Comics Proposal

Foundation Comics exclusively publishes creator-owned material. We do not contract creators; our sole interest is in publishing original content where you retain all rights. Please refrain from submitting any work that features pre-existing characters. We also do not accept AI-generated artwork.

#1
The essential cover letter

Provide a concise, typed cover letter. This should briefly introduce your project and highlight any relevant previous work. Make sure your contact details (name, email, address, and mobile number) are clearly printed at the top. Remember, we will only respond to submissions via the form.

#2
A compelling synopsis

Submit a one-page, typed synopsis of your story’s entire arc. This isn’t just about the first issue; give us the big picture. Be as brief as possible, and don’t shy away from including major plot points and spoilers. Crucially, tell us what makes your story unique and clearly define your target audience (avoiding the unrealistic “Everyone”). You can also indicate your preferred format – full color or black-and-white, miniseries or ongoing, prestige or graphic novel. However, be aware that we might suggest a format we believe would be most successful in the current market.

#3
Showcase Your Sequential Art Skills

Include photocopies/scans/files of at least five fully inked and lettered sequential story art pages. These can be any size, but please no character sketches or bios. It is vital that you DO NOT SEND ORIGINAL ART, as your work will not be returned. While we may offer suggestions based on these pages, our primary focus is on your understanding of the comic medium and your ability to tell a story sequentially. Adding color is entirely optional. If you have a colorist and envision your book in color, including colored pages is advisable. If we decide to acquire your project, we might suggest a different colorist with your approval.

#4
Design a Market-Aware Cover Mock-up

Present a cover mock-up. This helps us gauge your understanding of the market and provides insight into your design sensibilities. Should we acquire your project, this cover may undergo a redesign with your creative team’s approval.

#5
Electronic Submissions Only

All submissions must made through the site form at the end of this page. We are not currently accepting physical submissions.

Important Considerations
for Your Submission

Key information

Your Creative Team Matters:
The artists and writers you pitch are the ones we expect to see working on your book. Should a team member depart, a resubmission with the updated lineup is necessary. For all ongoing projects, we require notification and approval of any creative team changes.

Skip Convention Submissions
Please do not attempt to submit your proposal to Foundation Comics staff at comic book conventions. These submissions are likely to be lost or discarded.

Response Time
Due to the large volume of submissions, we cannot reply to every proposal individually. If you haven’t heard back within one month, please assume your proposal has been declined. Submissions lacking an email address will be automatically declined.

Focus on Your Work
We are not interested in praise or testimonials. Your work should stand on its own merits.

Genre Flexibility
We are open to all genres of comic books. Our focus is on well-written and well-drawn comics by dedicated creators who can consistently meet deadlines.

Your Intellectual Property is Safe
Foundation Comics does not develop its own intellectual properties. You can be confident that your property will remain yours, regardless of the outcome of your submission
